One thing y’all need to know about me is that I love live albums! I get so excited when one of my favorite bands turns around and announces one is coming. And that is exactly what took place at the start of 2025. Rotting Christ, an all-time favorite in the Book of Evil for this guy informed us all we would be getting 35 Years of Evil Existence – Live in Lycabettus – and you best believe I did backflips (no, not really. I’d be in traction!!) I was stoked like you wouldn’t believe!!
Now, I haven’t been there from the beginning, mind you. I only got onboard in 2016 with Rituals but once I did, man was I all in! 2019’s The Heretics gave me a damn musical organasm, and contains my favorite song till this day (more on that in a bit). So after another monster record in Pro Xristou here we go with a live testament to the band’s greatness. Over the course of 25 tunes the band not only sets the scene, they set the house on fire around you. Here’s a few examples…
Remember I mentioned that my favorite song is featured? Well after a blistering opener in “666” and punchy follow-up with “Punchau Kahun Tuta Kahun” along comes “Fire God and Fear”, my absolute USDA prime favorite in the band’s massive canon. As if that glorious boot to the head wasn’t enough, you’ve also got “Dies Irae” and “Like Father, Like Son” to whip the crowd into a frenzy! And then there’s “Archon” which comes in with the sole purpose of messing you up till your brains are like runny eggs. Gotta love that, no?
Towards the end we have “The Raven”, another longtime favorite, then closer “Under the Name of Legion” which to these ears is the perfect way to end things. My only disappointment is I was not there to experience this in person. Meantime I’ll just keep blasting this live testament to the power and glory of Rotting Christ live!!
Standout Tracks: All of them!
