I’ve been a Revolution Saints fan since their self-titled first album in 2015. Deen Castronovo on drums AND lead vocals?? Oh, where do I sign up? Hell, I’ve reviewed every album with no intention of stopping anytime soon! On this new disc Against the Winds (February 9, Frontiers Music) the band sounds different, yet the same. With Castronovo still firmly in the driver’s seat, things are a wee bit different these days. Where once was Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich (bass and guitar) we now have Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, ex-Dokken) and Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake, ex-Night Ranger).
The same instruments, but different feel/vibe appears all over this record. As much as I am a fan of the Mark I edition of the group, the prospect of this Mark II lineup is beyond exciting! And that really jumped out at me with “Will I See You Again”! Not surprisingly, this was my favorite. This is one I keep going back to. Elsewhere there is greatness afoot with “Show Me Your Light”, the high octane “Save All That Remains”, and opener “Against the Winds.”
The bottom line is this: Revolution Saints are here to stay, and let’s hope we have many more albums that I get to review!
Standout Tracks: “Against the Winds”, “Will I See You Again”, “Show Me Your Light”, “Save All That Remains”
