21 cuts in about 21 minutes – that should give a good indication of the style of music you are looking at with Indian band Grossty’s debut, Crocopter. You guessed it (hopefully); this is some good old fashioned grindcore. As you can probably tell from the colorful artwork of the slipcase (above) or the actual artwork (below), this isn’t that super-serious grind, but rather the style of grind that has some playfulness to it. Of course, playfulness doesn’t mean that the music is any less abrasive or intense, but it’s good to hear another band of this ilk that knows how to draw the line on being fun and savage, and wrapping it up into a bow for the listener. The song in question, “Corporate Gigolo” may only be a minute and four seconds, but there’s an overlying sense of groove that keeps the track from becoming a noisy mess (as some grind acts can become), even at it’s most chaotic. A definite winner if you enjoy acts like Brutal Truth or Cripple Bastards.
