UK death metal stalwarts DE PROFUNDIS have released an exclusive track from their forthcoming EP Frequencies. The track is called “A Strange Awakening” and has been offered to fans as a taster of the new EP and also the band’s new lineup. The EP will be released as a digital download on June 19th.
The new offering marks the first release for the band with guitarist Paul Nazarkardeh who joined the band in 2013. Shoi Sen, guitarist said “This is our first release since Paul joined us last September; we were half way through the writing process when we decided to split with our previous second guitarist Roman. With Paul joining, the whole writing session was suddenly galvanised and the shackles were off!”
“A Strange Awakening” still has all the familiar DE PROFUNDIS hooks and melodies, along with their trademark aggression and force, but with a new twist. Shoi went on to say about “A Strange Awakening”: “This is the last song we wrote for this recording cycle (EP and album) and showcases a little departure for us but still contains all the trademarks of a DE PROFUNDIS song, with tempo changes in abundance and melodic hooks.”
The departure of original member Roman Subbotin was difficult for the band but the new lineup has generated a fresh outlook for the future of DE PROFUNDIS. Shoi said “The split with Roman was a difficult one as he was one of the founding members of the band, but we were really confident that this new line up would take the band to another level, which we really feel we have achieved. We are gearing up for an exciting 18 months with the EP which will later be followed by the album and lots of touring on the horizon.”
The EP and forthcoming album was recorded at Barking Dog Studio in Ruislip and mixed and mastered at Studios Davout in France. Once again Fernando Pereira Lopez handled the production duties with DE PROFUNDIS.
