Band You May Have Missed: A Sound of Thunder

A Sound of Thunder is a female-fronted traditional heavy metal band from Washington DC. Guitarist Josh Schwartz brings a nice variety of NWOBHM, rock, power, and speed metal to the table and the riffs never fail to enrapture the intended audience. The band’s latest album, Time’s Arrow, has everything from scorchers (“Queen of Hell” – see below) to metal anthems (“I Will Not Break”) to a cheese-free ballad (“I’ll Walk With You”). Of course, Nina Osegueda’s commanding vocals deserve some high praise. With a tone that’s more aggressive and upfront than many female singers, she has the grit to make the heavier songs work, while keeping the range to add some beauty to the more melodic moments.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the band will be releasing their next album, The Lesser Key of Solomon, sometime in the near future. There’s no better time than the present to get acquainted with their works!
