Crematory – Destination (Rock of Angels Records)

Hokay, so! This new record from longtime metal stalwarts Crematory sees the band join the roster of ROAR (Rock of Angels Records), and it goes by the title of Destination. This one is cool because it’s a hard rockin’ time, yet it embraces gothic tones that you’ll feel in your bones.

Right away we’ve got the opening salvo of “Crematory” and “The Future Is a Lonely Place.” Two equally different songs, yet they both encompass that Crematory feel. Two sides of the coin, ya know? Which brings me to the next point, covering “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend” from Type O Negative. Wait, what?? How dare you, so ‘any’ of you?!? But guess what? It works! Not only does it work, but my wife Mrs. Amps stuck her head out to inquire. Long story short, she approves.

“My Own Private God” was the runaway favorite for this guy. Combining that goth feel with an Amon Amarth vibe you could not have signed me up fast enough. And “Days Without Sun” is a kick in the balls sonically. Love this one! “Banished Forever” heats up like a stew, just simmering before “Ashes of Despair” comes in with a hooky and anthemic guitar line. Not surprisingly this was/is one of my favorite tunes. “Toxic Touch” is an okay tune, nothing more.

Look, all told this is quite a good album from Crematory and Destination will definitely get you going in places. Just not all of them. But hey, it’s still a great album, and I’m sure you’ll all enjoy!

Standout Tracks: “Ashes of Despair “, “My Own Private God”, “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”.
