PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS Premiere ‘Usurper’s Bastard Rant’ Online

Monday, 13th May 2013

Philip Anselmo, renowned frontman of DOWN (ex-PANTERA, SUPERJOINT RITUAL) will release his career-first solo album, “Walk Through Exits Only”, on July 16 via his own Housecore Records. “Walk Through Exits Only” will also be made available three ways; digitally, on CD and on vinyl. Today, “Usurper’s Bastard Rant”, a heavy track from the album has been unleashed unto the masses and may be heard here.

The album was produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over the past couple of years at his New Orleans studio, Nodferatu’s Lair, with his band THE ILLEGALS – guitarist Marzi Montazeri, and drummer Jose Manuel “Blue” Gonzales.

Anselmo on his new project: “It wasn’t about doing a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record, it’s an angry album that only I could do. I don’t see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I’m screaming about. On this album, there isn’t any wordplay, there isn’t any hidden message, it’s all right there in front of you.”

Anselmo was asked by U.K’s Terrorizer Magazine what pressed him to make a solo CD now and his response is quite passionate: “I am a lover of all sorts of music but really my heart is … really I love extreme music, underground music, whether it be grindcore, death metal, thrash, black metal, (or whatever other) subgenre, and I find beauty in a lot of this stuff,” he replied.

Anselmo goes further, explaining to Rolling Stone that the new track was inspired by how watered-down music has become: “Traditions were meant to be celebrated and/or destroyed. The celebration is worn out in my view. It’s time for more destruction, and this is exactly the point of ‘Usurper’s Bastard Rant’.'”
