CONVULSE Guitarist Calls It Quits

Friday, 17th January 2014

Today, reactivated Finnish death metal trio CONVULSE announced that they have parted ways with guitarist Kristian Kangasniemi. CONVULSE’s current lineup features the band’s original vocalist/guitarist Rami Jämsä, bassist Juha Telenius and sticksman Rolle Markos.

CONVULSE comments: “We wish all the best for Kristian and thank him for his services and great live performances during last two years. Now we will go on threesome as long as we find a second guitarist who is fitting in our band. [We] don’t know [if] it [will] take weeks or years, but one thing is for sure: we will go on and we are starting to write and rehearse new material next week for the fourth CONVULSE album.”

CONVULSE’s latest album, Evil Prevails was released in November 2013 via Svart Records and was made available on CD, LP, and digital formats. The death metallers’ critically acclaimed comeback EP titled, Inner Evil was also released last year through Svart Records.

Formed in 1988 under the name S.D.S., CONVULSE’s first release was the Resuscitation Of Evilness demo cassette in 1990. The success of the demo led to a deal with the French record label Thrash Records, which released the band’s first full-length album, World Without God. A Relapse Records CD-single, Lost Equilibrium followed in 1993 after which CONVULSE prepared to record its second album, Reflections.

The group traveled to Sunlight Studios in Sweden and laid down the effort in a one-week period. Reflections release was put on hold for 1993 and most of 1994 as members of the band performed mandatory military service in Finland. An attempt to reassemble in support of the CD failed and a decision was made to put CONVULSE to rest.

CONVULSE returned in 2012 after nearly two decades and have played a few comeback shows in Finland since.
